From the Pulpit - October 2011

The ark for eternity is the Lord Jesus - he is the only way for a person to get saved. Those of us who have been saved and strive to be good labourers need to appreciate the rich blessings of our Lord Jesus. The simplicity that is in Christ helps us to avoid confusion and to stick to what is important. Informed decisions can then be made because of the one who has a wisdom that is greater than Solomon's. The futility of hewing out our own cisterns can be avoided if we go to the Lord whose supplies are endless. If we are responding to our call, we will earnestly strive to follow in his footsteps, while we see what a great example our Lord Jesus is. And we can respond to that calling because we are directed by him to use the knowledge and the talents that make us unique individuals. Thus each of us can be convinced of his love, as we are all accepted in the beloved. What grace has been bestowed upon us in that all our prayers are heard, not because we are good but the Lord Jesus is good! In his goodness and love he is leading his church, so that we as members in particular may assemble to encourage each other and be encouraged. There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism - division only occurs when man’s natural mind comes up with its own ideas and agendas. This should not be so, as it is clear that we must stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel: This is how we should live; this is how we should go on to perfection. The psalmist says, Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! Amen.

Sunday 02.10.2011 – The way, the truth, and the life - dm

But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. (Matt. 4:4)

For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed themselves out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water. (Jer. 2:13)

And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that comes to me shall never hunger; and he that believes on me shall never thirst. (John 6:35)

Jesus said unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes unto the Father, but by me. (John 14:6)

For so is the will of God, that with well doing you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: As free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king. (1 Pet. 2:15-17)

Sunday 09.10.2011 – Your calling - ae

You have hedged me behind and before, and laid your hand upon me. (Psalm 139:5)

For even to this were you called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow his steps: (1 Pet. 2:21)

But now thus says the LORD that created you, O Jacob, and he that formed you, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed you, I have called you by your name; you are mine. (Is. 43:1)

For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God has dealt to every man the measure of faith. (Rom. 12:3)

Sunday 16.10.2011 – Accepted in the beloved - dm

To the praise of the glory of his grace, in which he has made us accepted in the beloved. (Eph. 1:6)

Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruninghooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong. Assemble yourselves, and come, all you nations, and gather yourselves together round about: there cause your mighty ones to come down, O LORD. (Joel 3:10-11)

And you shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword. And five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword. (Lev. 26:7-8)

O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he has done marvelous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, has gotten him the victory. (Psalm 98:1)

Sunday 23.10.2011 – The church today - ae

To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: (Col. 1:27)

Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. (1 Cor. 1:10)

But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, who is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body being fitly joined together and knit together by that which every joint supplies, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, makes increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love. (Eph. 4:15-16)

One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. (Eph. 4:5-6)

Sunday 30.10.2011 – Stand fast in one spirit - dm

Only let your manner of life be as it becomes the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; (Phil. 1:27)

When a man's ways please the LORD, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him. (Prov. 16:7)

Be tender loving one to another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another;(Rom. 12:10)

And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and you shall keep my judgments, and do them. (Ezek. 36:27)
