It is a fundamental truth that water sustains life. It is equally true that Jesus our Lord says that he will give to him that is thirsty of the fountain of the water of life freely. A further proof of how much we are loved by our Lord and King! Surely we must know in our heart that there is nothing that can separate us from the love of Christ. We may appear to be lacking, but the truth remains that our sufficiency is of God. All challenges of the daily life can be met through Christ who strengthens us. We all know that if we are thirsty, we must drink. It is no different in the spiritual realm: We just have to make sure that we drink of the Lord Jesus and let him fill us. And he does always fill us in the most vibrant and thrilling way. One of our great privileges is to be taught the Word of God by him who is the Word made flesh. Yes, our hearts can burn within us, because truth that is revealed by our great teacher is so captivating! This is what transforms us and allows the precious light of our Lord Jesus to be reflected in us. We pray that in this way Jesus can be made known and the gospel can be preached. What Jesus wrought on the cross is so great that words may fail us. Until we understand and know everything in full, we have the precious hope of Christ’s return, for which we yearn so much. True longing helps us to focus on what is important, for example the first and great commandment. The love of God really helps everything else to fall into place, for when we truly love our Lord Jesus it is not burdensome to love our neighbour also. When we serve such a great King, who has even brought death unto subjection, the triumph song of our hearts should be, “Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing.” Amen.
