From the Pulpit - May 2011
The Bible speaks of us being blessed with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ. This is an all-inclusive statement. We do not have to worry that maybe we missed out on something or that maybe others are more blessed than us. On the contrary, we have the opportunity to have certainty in life, because we are free from guessing and can know the simple truth about a given situation. This helps us to live righteously and to be ambassadors of peace. Because we know the high calling, we pray that we also can say, “Let the enemy persecute my soul,” as we strive to offer no cause for reproach. We do all this because we love our Lord Jesus and want to be an active member in his church. The one that we believe in is a sure foundation. If we understand that his work is so much better than our works, we want to crucify the flesh with its affections and lusts. So we are for ever thankful, knowing that we can continue to trust in God and that he will always see us through. Things may not appear to our liking at first, but if we continue to trust God, we will see his plans unfold in a way that is better than what we could have hoped for. We are called to give thanks in everything, it is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning us. If we are faithful in this, we can attain the rightful standard for service. Jesus warned us of the leaven of the Pharisees, because he knows how damaging hypocrisy is even to our ministries. So we do not need to fear men but have the fear of the Lord, as that is the beginning of wisdom. We can and will enter into the joy of the Lord if we persist in being faithful servants that exhort one another, and even the more so as we see the day approaching.
Sunday 01.05.2011 – The blessing of being in Christ - ae
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: (Eph. 1:3)
Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees the Father do: for whatsoever things he does, these also does the Son likewise. (John 5:19)
And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, This is the way, walk you in it, when you turn to the right hand, and when you turn to the left. (Is. 30:21)
Therefore seeing we also are surrounded with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which does so easily ensnare us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, (Heb. 12:1)
Sunday 08.05.2011 – Let the enemy persecute my soul - dm
O LORD my God, if I have done this; if there be iniquity in my hands; If I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me; (yea, I have delivered him that without cause is my enemy:) Let the enemy persecute my soul, and take it; yea, let him tread down my life upon the earth, and lay my honor in the dust. Selah. (Ps. 7:3-5)
If it be possible, as much as lies in you, live peaceably with all men. (Rom. 12:18)
By long patience is a prince persuaded, and a gentle tongue breaks the bone. (Prov. 25:15)
Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, (2 Pet. 1:2)
Sunday 15.05.2011 – This is the work of God - dm
Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that you believe on him whom he has sent. (John 6:29)
For the scripture says, Whosoever believes on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Rom. 10:11-13)
Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation: he that believes shall not be in haste. (Is. 28:16)
And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. (Gal. 5:24)
For, lo, I will command, and I will sift the house of Israel among all nations, like grain is sifted in a sieve, yet shall not the least grain fall upon the earth. (Amos 9:9)
Sunday 22.05.2011 – Be thankful - dm
For you are a holy people unto the LORD your God, and the LORD has chosen you to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth. (Deut. 14:2)
I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd gives his life for the sheep. (John 10:11)
Let your conduct be without covetousness; and be content with such things as you have: for he has said, I will never leave you, nor forsake you. (Heb. 13:5)
I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving. This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bullock that has horns and hoofs. The humble shall see this, and be glad: and your hearts shall live that seek God. For the LORD hears the poor, and despises not his prisoners. (Ps. 69:30-33)
In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. (1 Thes. 5:18)
Sunday 29.05.2011 – The leaven of the Pharisees - dm
In the meantime, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, so much that they tread one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known. Therefore whatsoever you have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which you have spoken in the ear in private rooms shall be proclaimed upon the housetops. (Luke 12:1-3)
But I will forewarn you whom you shall fear: Fear him, who after he has killed has power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him. (Luke 12:5)
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as you see the day approaching. (Heb. 10:25)
His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things: enter into the joy of your lord. (Mat. 25:23)
