From the Pulpit - May 2010

One very foolish thing we can do in life is trying to take the things that belong to God into our own hands. This is a sure recipe for disaster. Emotions run high when injustice has been done, sure, but our God does not miss anything, so it is so important that we remember to trust him. He always has our best interests at heart, and particularly in the case of justice there are no safer hands than the Lord's. In fact, so much of the turbulence in life can be avoided if we cease from our own works and just trust in the rock that is Jesus Christ. He is our refuge from the tempest, he is as rivers of water in a dry place. He ascended to heaven and then the comforter came: Since the day of Pentecost anyone who believes on the Lord Jesus can receive the holy Spirit. A Spirit that strengthens us and equips us to do exlploits we could never achieve on our own. A Spirit that helps us to live unto Christ and be like him. He is the Great Shepherd and as the psalmist says, goodness and mercy shall surely follow us all the days of our life. Let us pray that we can make this boast, that we shall be known by our goodness and mercy, so that wherever we go, there is a reputation of goodness and mercy that we leave behind. Amen.

Sunday 02.05.2010 – Be not overcome of evil
- dm

Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. (Rom. 12:21)

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thus with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; (Eph. 6:18)

Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesying. (1 Thes. 5:19-20)

This is a faithful saying, and these things I desire that you affirm constantly, that they who have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men. (Tit. 3:8)

O LORD God, to whom vengeance belongs; O God, to whom vengeance belongs, show yourself.(Ps. 94:1)

He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? He that formed the eye, shall he not see? He that chastises the nations, shall he not correct? He that teaches man knowledge, shall he not know?(Ps. 94:9-10)

Sunday 09.05.2010 – A rest to the people of God
- dm

There remains therefore a rest to the people of God. (Heb. 4:9)

Thus speaks the LORD of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and show mercy and compassion every man to his brother: (Zech. 7:9)

I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me. (Prov. 8:17)

Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. (Mat. 10:16)

You also, as living stones, are built up into a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. Therefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious: and he that believes on him shall not be confounded. (1 Pet. 2:5-6)

Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in justice. And a man shall be as a hiding place from the wind, and a refuge from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.
(Is. 32:1-2)

I go to the Rock that is higher than I
I find in Him, my full supply,
He is my Rock, my strength and guide,
I will go to Him, what' ever betide.
This Rock holds the world in His hands
Things that happen are part of His plan,
He is in control all over the land,
I'll go to the Rock, He holds my hand.

Sunday 16.05.2010 – Ascension - ae

And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. (Acts 1:9)

Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. (John 16:7)

But you are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. (Rom. 8:9-10)

My little children, these things write I unto you, that you sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: (1 John 2:1)

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. (Ps. 23:6)

Sunday 23.05.2010 – Pentecost
- ae

That at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: (Eph. 2:12)

And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. (Acts 2:1)

And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said unto them, Receive you the Holy Spirit: (John 20:22)

And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them separated tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. (Acts 2:2-3)

Cretans and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. (Acts 2:11)

Sunday 30.05.2010 – For the Lord your God is a merciful God
- dm

Be you therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. (Luke 6:36)

And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, (Ex. 34:6)

Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. (Mat. 5:7)

Let not mercy and truth forsake you: bind them about your neck; write them upon the table of your heart: (Prov. 3:3)

He has showed you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God? (Mic. 6:8)
